Jose Marcelo Chaffino

January 16, 1942 — March 14, 2015

Jose Marcelo Chaffino, Sr., 73, born on January 16, 1942, in El Monte, California to Fernando Chaffino and Lupe Chavez and raised by his father Jose Chavez passed away March 14, 2015 in Riverside California at 3:40 P.M. He resided in Sun City, California at the time of his passing. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Covina, California.

He graduated from La Puente High School in 1960 and then married his high school sweetheart 3 years later on March 23, 1963. He held several jobs at various schools before finding a home at the University of La Verne where he held the position of Athletics Equipment Manager from 1988 to 2004 before being forced into retirement due to an injury. He loved being a LEO, loved the staff he worked with, and especially loved the friendships he made with many student athletes in the span of his 16 years of service to ULV. Jose also was a faithful servant at the The Salvation Army Ontario Corps as a Corps Sergeant Major for 12 years. He has been an adult Sunday School teacher for the past ten years at New Beginnings Assembly of Walnut Valley in Covina. He opened his home for many wayward teens and young adults who just needed some guidance. He always had an encouraging word or a joke to tell you showing his different sides of him.

He leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Emilia Rodriguez Chaffino; His five sons, Jose Chaffino, Antonio Chaffino, Daniel Chaffino, Miguel Chaffino, and Mario Chaffino; His three daughter-in-laws Audra, Liz, and Vivian; His seven grandchildren Adrian, Sabrina, Noah, Xylia, Isabella, Kylie, and Emma; His brother Robert V. Chaffino and sister Rose Chavez Jameson; His many nieces, nephews, and the rest of the Chaffino family. He is preceded in death by his fathers Fernando Chaffino and Jose Chavez and mother Lupe Chavez, and brothers George, Rick, and John Chavez.
