Obituary

Jose “Joe” Agpaoa Rivera, 91, born on September 22, 1934, in Vintar Ilocos Norte, Philippines, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 15, 2026.

He was happily married to Raquel Duldulao whom he met while both attending college in the Philippines. Joe received a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering at Feati University.

Joe & Raquel had seven children and three (Ralph, Gina, and Roderick) were called to home before their own passing.

Joe migrated to Hawaii in 1964, followed by Raquel and eldest son Ralph. They resided in Hawaii, where their remaining children were born, until moving the family to Los Angeles.

Joe’s favorite activities throughout his life were bowling in a league alongside Raquel at Eagle Rock Lanes, playing golf as a member of the Fil-Am Golf club playing in tournaments and winning several trophies in both sports. He loved fishing, ballroom dancing, watching Laker games every season, and spending time with his family, especially his grandkids whom he affectionally nicknamed, “Megan-tot”, “Noah-tot”, “Bethamol”, “Sebana”, and “So-wee”. He was always there for them, at a moment’s notice.

Joe was a carpenter by trade, helping build high rises in Honolulu. He built the back of the Rivera home in Eagle Rock, literally with his own two hands - a family project that he was always proud of. He retired as a carpenter from Pasadena Unified School District in 1999.

Joe resided in Eagle Rock for 44 years. After losing his son Ralph, he and Raquel remained active with Saint Dominic’s Church, were in the church choir and members of organizations such as the Legion of Mary where they helped spread the word of God and prayer, the Lions Club where they participated in community service, the Pilipino American Community of Eagle Rock, and the Vintarinian Association, sometimes holding officer positions.

Joe leaves behind his children Sherry, Rommel, Gilbert, and Brent; his daughters in law Nelida and Veronica; his son in law Rex; his grandchildren Megan, Noah, Bethany, Savannah, and Zoe; older sister Dorotea Almozara; and his wife, Marietta Mendoza.

Dad, Apo Joe, Uncle Joe will remain forever in our hearts.

Arrangements are under the care of Forest Lawn, Glendale, CA.
