Pastor Jon Imme was born in Richland, Washington on April 23, 1950, the son of Reverend Edward and Jolanda Imme. His earliest years were spent in Palmer, Alaska, where he first learned to love nature and the outdoors. He graduated from JM Weatherwax High School in Aberdeen, Washington in 1968. He graduated from Concordia Junior College in Portland, Oregon, Concordia Senior College in Fort Wayne, Indiana and the Lutheran Seminary Missouri Synod in St. Louis, Missouri.
Jon served vicarages and internships at True Light Lutheran Church in New York City (the only Chinese Missouri Synod Lutheran Church) and in the Navajo Nation at Four Corners, Arizona. He was ordained a pastor in 1977 and was called to serve Peace Lutheran Church in Lake View Terrace, California that same year. He served his entire ministry at his beloved Peace Lutheran, a diverse and loving congregation.
As a pastor, his outreach was global through his books, documentary videos, blogs on the journey of faith, as well as his powerful preaching.
God gifted Jon with such a passion for His Word and for Jesus' the "Least of These."
Throughout 45 years, he led outreach and ministered to inmates, gang-members, the homeless, at-risk children from foster care or running away from broken homes, visited the sick at homes and hospitals, conducted Bible studies in nearby homes for the elderly and of those with disability.
These various ministries were blessed by God while he worked with a small multicultural urban church in Los Angeles, and held a second job as a teacher at a Lutheran high school.
Jon kept going until the very end. He never stopped preaching, even at the hospital where so many people were touched by Jon from his therapist to the nurses, to the doctors, and other patients. During his illness, in very weakened condition that he could barely walk, Jon was so excited to share with his care team his next sermon that he had planned to preach next Sunday.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sheila, the love of his life, and by children Jessica Imme, Jonathan Imme and Poleen Imme, sister Carol Speer, and his loving extended family. He was preceded in death by older brothers Michael and Stephen and parents Edward and Jolanda.
