Johnny Ventura Caldito Sr.

Febuary 18 1927 - October 11 2016 Johnny Ventura Caldito, Sr. passed away at the age of 89 years. Second oldest son of 10 children of teacher Roberto C.Caldito and Elvira N. Ventura in a small town; Johnny was born on a rice farm in Pozorrubio, Pangasinan, Philippines. He harvested rice, fruit, and poultry. At the age of 17, he was recruited by the U.S. Army Philippine Scout under General MacArthur. He went through basic infantry, Military Police and forwarded his rank as a diesel mechanic Master Sergeant. After his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, he continued and graduated high school. He studied mechanical engineering and electrical in college. After marrying Jesusa Del Mundo Dulay on May 18 1951, Johnny continued his skills as a local town mechanic and was appointed as an electrician for Quezon City in 1964 . They moved to Los Angeles, California in April 1968. He immediately applied to a newspaper Ad and was hired as a Mechanic-B by the RTD (Rapid Transit District Div 3 in Los Angeles, CA). Johnny became the first Filipino to garner the "Employee of the Month" RTD program. In 1971, they purchased their first home and moved to Glendale, CA. While working with the RTD, he moonlighted as an owner/driver bus tour company (C.E.L Inc) to Las Vegas/Lake Tahoe/Grand Canyons trips on the weekends. He retired from RTD in 1990 as a Mechanic-A with a full retirement pension. He was known to have worked on the first handicap ramps on the public transits. He continued to own his bus tour business until 1998. As a Glendale residence since 1971, he lived at his Fischer street home until his old age.
He is survived by his six children: Johnny Jr, Joseph, Concepcion, Jeannette, Jesse, James; Grandfather to Jonathan, Theresa, Timothy, Jerome, Jason, Gabriel, Kelia, Kiani, Macayla, Lani, Jan Luke, Maia, Colette, Michelle, Jesse Jr; Great Grandfather to Emma and Jacob. A Funeral mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Glendale, CA, October 22nd 10am and burial at Glendale Forest Lawn. Viewings on October 20th and October 21th 10am-9pm at Glendale Forest Lawn Mortuary building.
