John Westcott

John Westcott, 87, born on August 08, 1935, in Plainfield, NJ, United States, passed away June 14, 2023.

A graduate of Yale undergrad and a Stanford Masters degree, John honorably served his country for 28 years and retired as a Navy Captain in 1984.  He was a SeaBee and served in Japan, Philippines, Vietnam, Puerto Rico, Diego Garcia, as well as many domestic stations, with his final posting being the Commanding Officer of Port Hueneme Naval Base.  After retiring from the Navy, John joined Northwest Memorial Hospital in Chicago and forever changed the skyline of downtown Chicago by building the Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

John is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Margarete, and their children, Karyn, Kean, and Kevin and their four grandchildren.  John and Grete had many adventures through the years including having two children in Japan, living in Scottland, and raising their three children while moving frequently during his Naval career.

He resided in Palm Desert, CA at the time of his passing. Arrangements are under the care of Forest Lawn, Cathedral City, CA.  A small family service will be held graveside at Riverside National Cemetary on July 10, 2023.
