Derry, NH: John A. Viaes, 81, of Derry died on July 26, 2015 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House. Mr. Viaes was a former longtime resident of Somerville, MA for thirty years before moving to Sandown, NH in 1980 until 2008. He moved to Hampstead before moving to Vero Beach, FL in 2008. He and his wife had returned to the area three weeks ago to be with family.
Born in Boston, MA, son of the late Antonio and Crocifissa "Fannie" (Cannarozza) Viaes, Mr. Viaes graduated from Christopher Columbus High School in the North End of Boston. He served in the United States Army from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1959.
Mr. Viaes was employed as a microwave technician for over twenty years for Kevlin Manufacturing in Woburn and Methuen, MA. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Winchester, MA and was also a member of St. Anne's Parish in Hampstead, NH.
An avid reader and devoted grandfather, he enjoyed , gardening, cooking, walking and playing poker and hearts.
He is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Dorothy Ann (Silva) Viaes, a son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Sheryl Viaes of Groton, MA, a daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Richard Dinsmore of Hampstead, two step sons, Michael Reppucci and Larry Reppucci, a sister and brother-in-law, Diane and Anthony Palladino of Milton, MA, five grandchildren, John and Michael Viaes, Alexandra and David Dinsmore, and Michael Reppucci, and a great granddaughter, Lily.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday, August 2 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Plaistow, NH. His funeral will begin on Monday at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Anne's Church, Emerson Avenue, Hampstead.
