Plaistow, NH: John G. Varney, 56, a resident of Plaistow since 2003 and a former longtime Florida resident, died on August 7, 2014 at Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA following complications due to Leukemia.
Born in Bangor, ME, and raised and educated in Brewer, ME, son of June (Cahoon) Varney and the late Richard Varney, he graduated from John Bapst High School in 1976 and went on to attend Northeastern University and graduated from the Harvard Extension with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. Mr. Varney received his Law Degree from California Western School of Law in San Diego, CA and furthered his education with a Master's Degree in International Tax Law from the University of Florida, Gainesville.
A member of the Florida Bar, Mr. Varney has been employed as an attorney for Tyco Electronics of New Jersey since 2001 and was previously employed as a lawyer for Arthur Anderson Company and several other firms.
A member of St. James Parish, he enjoyed renovating and maintaining his historic home in Plaistow. He also enjoyed cooking, hiking, biking, and especially spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of twenty-six years, Luzia (Zouain) Varney, a son John Lucas Z. Varney of Plaistow, two daughters, Anne C. Varney and her fiancé Stephen Dimmick of Raleigh, NC, and Isabella Z. Varney of Plaistow, his mother, June (Cahoon) Varney of Fort Myers, FL, a brother, Richard Varney and his wife Ann Hacket of Cape Coral, FL, two sisters, Nancy Renninger and her husband Carl of Cape Coral, FL, and Lisa Varney and her husband Gary Damaschi of Honolulu, HI, and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel and Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Route 121A, Plaistow, NH. His funeral will begin on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon at St. James Church, 185 Winter Street, Haverhill, MA.
