John Sullivan

John Leo Sullivan, 88, of Northridge, CA peacefully passed away on January 14, 2024 surrounded by loved ones.

John was born on December 17, 1935 to Timothy and Leah Sullivan in Herington, KS.  He and his family moved to California in 1946. After graduating from University High School in 1955, he went on to serve in the Army National Guard from 1957 to 1963 and received his marksmanship and sharpshooter decorations.

After serving 6 years with the National Guard, John worked at UCLA as an HVAC maintenance technician. In 1975 he met his beautiful wife Mary Lou Sullivan and they married in 1976.  John loved Mary Lou’s four children, Ralph, Roger, Jeffrey and Melissa, as his own. In 1977, John and Mary Lou had their son Timothy. John retired from UCLA in 1993 and then worked for Culligan for eight years, before retiring for good in 2001.

John enjoyed spending time with Mary Lou, taking her to the movies & going out to eat. He loved to watch sports and be around his family. His faith and church community were extremely important to him. John’s heart was full when he was helping in the community by providing meals to those who needed them. John was a stoic man and, though he was a man of few words, his actions spoke volumes. His laugh was infectious, especially when he made himself crack up.  John will be greatly missed by his family and friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents Timothy and Leah, his wife Mary Lou and son Jeffrey Mason. John is survived by his sons Tim (Heather) Sullivan, Ralph (Annette) Mason, and Roger Mason; daughter Melissa Mason, his six grandchildren, Jim, Joan, Tim, Olivia, Connor and Vivian and four great grandchildren, Ava, Cade, Elijah and Bailey Mary-Lou.

Services will be held at St Mel Catholic Church in Woodland Hills on Thursday, January 25th at 1:00 pm. Burial to follow at Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills.
