John Spieth

December 30, 1942 — August 9, 2025

John Spieth, 82, born on December 30, 1942, passed away August 09, 2025. He resided in Cathedral City, California until his passing.

It is with sorrow and deep reverence that we announce the passing of our beloved John M. Spieth, who went to be with our Lord August 9, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, wisdom, and friendship. It was a privilege for those of us to have him in our lives.

John was born in Washington, D.C. Eldest child of Howard and Alice (Gunderson) Spieth and brother of Charles and Diane Schmidt (Spieth) all of whom preceded him in death. He was uncle to Cyndi Ramirez (Schmidt) and brother-in-law Bucky and grand uncle of Katie. John’s previous partner Frank Deniz served as his trusted ally until his passing.

John grew up in Pacific Palisades, California and graduated High School from University High School in Los Angeles in 1960. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Redlands in 1964. John always excelled academically. He served in the California National Guard as Staff Seargent after college.

John spent much of his career in the aerospace industry with Douglas, then becoming McDonnel Douglas Corporation, later becoming The Boeing Company. This led to a passion and love for anything related to planes including their design, capabilities as well as their histories.

He worked in Payroll and for many years in Compensation and Relocation where he assisted in Executive’s relocation domestically and internationally. This afforded him the opportunity to travel as part of this career.

John was intelligent, an avid reader and endearing man. But it was his deep love for travel that most will remember as part of him. His travels, including cruises, took him to Europe, eastern Asia, the Middle East, the Caribbean, Central America and Alaska. He travelled first class and always enjoyed the experience of meeting new people and experiencing new cultures.

As John’s health declined in recent years, his warmth and friendliness never faded.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to all who mourn our loss, and we give thanks for the precious gift of John's life.

Internment is at Forest Lawn, Cathedral City, California.
