John Wesley Sellers, 74, born on December 4, 1937, in Selma, Alabama passed away December 1, 2012. He resided in Beverly Hills, California at the time of his passing. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles, CA.

John Wesley Sellers left Alabama and moved to Los Angeles at the tender age of 17 yrs old.He served in the USA Air Force where he made many friends and served his country.It was in the Air Force where he met his best and life long friend Councilman David Cunningham.In a chance meeting John met Edith Ann Chandler in Los Angeles while she was on a family trip to the city.John was so enchanted by Edith that he followed her back to her home town of Bakersfield ,California without even knowing her address.John made it his mission to locate Edith and went through out Bakersfield asking people if they knew where Elder Chandler lived (Edith's father).Eventually John found the Chandler home and once found he sat on the steps of her family home until she return late that evening.John and Edith fell madly in love .John was quickly excepted by the Chandler family and 6 month's later John and Edith married in the Church of God where her father pastored in Bakersfield ,California.

John played Football and Basketball for Bakersfield College and was drafted by two professional teams NFL & AFL.Coach Vince Lombardi recruited John for the Denver Broncos and the San Francisco 49 ers recruited him as well while playing at junior college level.Which is very rare.John was All-American, All Conference,Coaches Award,Football Honor Roll and Letterman.John's team was Annually one of the strongest junior college teams-Renegades second nationally in 1962 and the last junior college to go to the Junior Rose Bowl.John was a dedicated husband ,father and grandfather,he was a man of honor and dignity who always put family first.John is survived by his wife Edith Sellers 5 children and 8 grandchildren.
