Cherished husband, father, and beloved papa, John Fredrick Schwiebert, passed away at his home in Stanton, California on February 13, 2024, surrounded by his wife, Laurie Schwiebert and his three children, Shannon, Kelly, and Camden.

John is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 43 years, Laurie Schwiebert, née LaRock.  They married February 14th, 1981 at the farmhouse in which Laurie grew up in New Mexico.  His three children are: Shannon Schwiebert, Kelly Deshler, and Camden Schwiebert.  His beloved grandchildren include Keira Deshler, Charlotte Schwiebert, and Hunter Schwiebert.  Also, he is survived by his nephews Andrew and Ehren Schwiebert and his brother Tom Schwiebert.  He is preceded in death by his younger brother Peter Schwiebert and his parents.

John, 79, was born on November 16, 1944, in Toledo, OH.  He was the son of Walter Herman Schwiebert of Hamler, Ohio and Jean Ellen Marcy of Toledo, Ohio.  The family moved to Arizona in John’s childhood but would still go back to the Schwiebert farm in Ohio for the summers, where his grandparents Fredrick A. Schwiebert and Emilie Sonnenberg resided. John had many fond memories there.  He was a devoted son.

He attended Arizona State University, earning a degree in Aeronautical Engineering in 1970 and in Civil Engineering in 1972. He moved from Arizona to Plaster City, California with his first-born, Shannon, and then Stanton, California later in the 1970s.  This is where he met his wife Laurie.  John worked hard to provide for family and children as an engineer for a number of companies, including Flying Tigers, Garrett, and Honeywell. During this time, his work took him on many travels to China, Japan, and Korea.  After retirement, he continued his love of learning by earning his Master’s Degree in Geology.

In his free time, John could be found out in the garage, fixing the car, building furniture (he was a master carpenter), creating beautiful stained glass windows, or inside, fixing up the house, reading, baking bread from scratch, or doing a jigsaw puzzle.  John loved nature and traveling.  Some of his favorite spots where he took his family on vacations were Morro Bay, Yosemite National Park, June Lake in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and San Onofre State Beach.

John was fiercely devoted to his family and had many happy years of marriage with Laurie, the love of his life.  In his later years, John had the joy of being “Papa” to his grandchildren, helping Laurie to care for them when they were babies.  Watching them grow, being silly with them, playing, teaching them, loving them - this was one of the happiest and most relaxed times of his life and it was touching to see him as a grandfather.  John will be forever loved and remembered by the many people he touched.
