John Richey died peacefully at his home in Los Alamitos, California surrounded by much love at the age of 91.
John was the eldest of five children born to Chester and Rose Richey and raised in Hawthorne, California. He attended Mount Carmel High School for Boys and received an AA in Fire Science from El Camino Junior College. John proudly served in the Navy on the USS Badoeng Strait from 1954-1956. After working some time in a machine shop, John pursued employment with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. He had a 30 year distinguished career serving and helping countless souls.
John met Margaret Ann(Martie) Lohstroh during their high school years. The sweethearts married October 25, 1952 and raised seven children together. Some of John’s favorite hobbies were golf, waterskiing, snow skiing, scuba diving, camping, walking, and photography. He and Martie traveled all over the United States and throughout the world to places like Ireland, the Holy Land, Mexico, and throughout Europe. He shared his adventurous spirit with the people around him.
John was a true man of faith. He loved God, his Church, his wife and his family. He was strong and steady. He was a great provider and enjoyed life and all it had to offer. He was faithful and grateful to the very end. He will be sorely missed by those who loved him.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Lisa Lozano, his sister Rita Simpson, and his brother Terry Richey. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Martie, his sisters Mary Ann Braus, and Kathleen Cruz; his children Carol Richey, Donna Richey(Stuart Levine), Tom Richey (Wendy), Mike Richey, Ann Butterbaugh (Eric), and Monica Mariano(Stephen); his 12 beloved grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
