John Carpenter Otto, 85, of Palm Springs, Calif. quietly passed away at his home, on April 12, 2015, after a chronic illness. He was born in Chicago, Ill. and spent his childhood in Michigan and Missouri. Jack was predeceased by his parents, Carroll and Kathryn Otto and brother, Charles. He is survived by his wife, Faye; nieces, Kimberly Ann Knight and Marji Khin; nephew, Aaron Battiste; cousins, Mary Ann McCullough of Michigan, and Jim Durbin of Florida. Jack graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a Baccalaureate degree in Political Science and with a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Southwestern University School of Law. He was admitted to practice in California before all Federal Courts, including the distinction of practice before the United States Supreme Court. He specialized in the defense of foreign and domestic automobiles and heavy industrial machinery manufacturers. He proudly served in the United States Air Force. After honorable discharge, he began his career as an attorney. He spent his adult professional life living in Los Angeles, Calif. and retired to Palm Springs twelve years ago. He held the rank of Diplomate Emeritus in the American Board of Trial Advocates and was an Emeritus member of the International Association of Defense Council. Jack was a long-time member of the Jonathan Club in Los Angeles. Jack was an accomplished sailor, avid reader, and enjoyed traveling. He loved animals and as a result, he donated to many animal charities. He was a man with impeccable taste and cherished his family, home, and friends. The funeral will be held Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at 12:00 pm in the Ramon Chapel at Forest Lawn in Cathedral City, Calif. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Animal Samaritans, P.O. Box 513, Thousand Palms, CA 92276 or Stroke Recovery Center, 2800 E Alejo Rd, Palm Springs, CA 92262
