John F. Meenan
Surrounded by a loving family John F. "Jack" Meenan passed away October 6, 2017. Jack was born in Wilmar, California on July 2, 1934 to Anne and Larry Meenan. He had two brothers Jimmy and Tommy and sister Jill Reeder. Jack lived a fun life full of boyhood adventures growing up in Southern California. For many years, he was an Altar Boy at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Monterey Park. After graduating from Mark Keppel High School in Alhambra, Jack joined the Army and went to Korea serving in the Military Police Corps. He graduated from Cal State Los Angeles with a degree in Political Science. He married Judy Cordray in 1959 and together they raised three daughters; Bonnie (Bill) Taylor, Kerri Meenan and Denise (Adam) Firling. He is survived by six grandsons; Konan, Jonathon, Dalton, Cole, Cory, and Roman. Sadly, Jack was predeceased by two sons, Raymond and Michael. Additional family members include his many nieces, nephews and a dear family friend and Kerri's companion, Niko Esposito.
Jack started work at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in 1962 where he met and married his true soulmate Bonnie in 1990. Together the two of them traveled the world: Europe, South America, Asia, Australia and Africa. They sailed around Cape Horn, the Baltic Sea, Yangtze and Nile Rivers, and the waterways of the Eastern Seaboard, Alaska and Mexico. They led an exciting life seeing sites and meeting people. Jacks favorite place was Ireland visiting family and friends. When Jack and Bonnie were not traveling the world they could be found traveling the highways of the USA in their RV especially when temperatures in Palm Springs exceeded 100. They then headed to the California coast and north to the Pacific Northwest. Jack loved to watch Notre Dame football, shoot pool and laugh with friends. His keen wit and hearty laugh will be missed by many.
Jack was a Charter Member of the Sky Forest Elks Lodge in Lake Arrowhead, a Life Member of the VFW and maintained memberships at the Palm Springs American Legion, Long Beach WA Eagles and Los Compadres in Palm Springs. A Memorial, Celebration of Life and Memories to share will begin at Forest Lawn, 69855 E. Ramon Road, Cathedral City on Saturday, October 21 at 12:00 noon followed by lots of good cheer at Los Compadres, 1849 S. El Cielo Road, Palm Springs.
The Meenan Family requests in lieu of flowers please send donations to the charity of your choice.
