Dr. John J. Jackson
February 14, 1958 - November 8, 2015
Pastor John Jackson passed away unexpectedly on November 8, 2015, while joyously preparing for Sunday morning worship at the Glendale Church of the Brethren. He was Pastor there for eight years and built a vital, thriving congregation of Christians who became like family under his leadership.
He was born in White Pigeon, Michigan to "Chuck" Murray J. and Mary L. (Adams) Jackson. He became a Christian as a young man, finding God's call at First Baptist Church in downtown Lansing while attending community college and studying photography. He worked at his father's tire shop while finishing college, transferring to Western Michigan University and completing his undergraduate degree in Communications. He followed God's calling to Bethany Theological Seminary where he completed his Master's Degree. He later completed his Doctor of Ministry degree at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH, focusing on counseling others on personal spiritual direction.
He devoted his life to building church communities and ministering to members, believers and seekers of all kinds. He served at Morrill and Sabetha (KS), Clover Creek (Martinsburg, PA), and Happy Corner (Clayton, OH) Church of the Brethren congregations before coming to Glendale.
John loved God, his family and his congregations. He was an extraordinary preacher, writer, photographer and creative thinker. He saw and sought the presence of God, sharing the Spirit in joy and fellowship, and in personal and congregational discernment. He created and maintained a website (www.3pmDevotions.com) dedicated to his love of photography, God's creation, and sharing reflections on God's word.
He is survived by his beloved wife Christine, daughters and their husbands Alicia Jackson & Dan Kwon and Wendy and Adrian Jackson-Jones, and two grandsons, Simon and Teddy. His sister and brother, Mary and Charlie Jackson also grieve.
