John Hauge passed away February 5, 2022 at the age of 94. John was born on September 24, 1927 in Hoyland, Rogaland County, Norway and raised by his parents Martin and Marie Hauge. They lived on a farm in Hoyland but later moved to Sandness where his dad was employed at a creamery. After that the family moved to his mother's dad's farm in Hyllerstad Sogn & Fjordane County . John was a hard worker helping his dad on the farm as well as managing his school work. John told many interesting stories of his time on the farm and experiences during WWII. His face would light up as he recalled his memories which have been written in a book compiled by his family.
In 1946 and 1947 John and his sister, Anna, attended and graduated from a Christian school at Balestrand Sogn. That is where he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and established his strong Christian foundation. At that school he also learned his trade in carpentry in which he excelled and became a skilled craftsman. He and his family moved to Sandnes in 1948 where he met the love of his life Klara Jerstad. They married on June 21, 1952 and remained a loving couple until Klara's death in 2012 .
John moved to America in April of 1956. He lived in New York, Michigan and eventually southern California where he lived until his passing . Being the craftsman he was, he built his dream home in Glendale, Ca where he lived until 2020. His health began to fail and moved into one of his other owned properties, a duplex on Lilac Lane. He remained there until he went home to be with the Lord on February 5th .
John is pre-deceased by his wife Klara, his brother Gudmund and sister Anna. He is survived by his son Martin (Nancy) of Dallas, Oregon, his sister Gunvor Amundson and brother Bjarne Hauge of Norway, grandson John Hauge (Ally) and great-granddaughter Ella of Salem, Oregon. The family wishes to thank his nephews and nieces who cared so much for him and his dedicated caregivers from Angels Watch Home Care who were like family to him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his memory to St. Olav's Seamen's Church in San Pedro, California .
