May 8, 1938 — January 13, 2024

Seal Beach, CA

John Gallagher, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Seal Beach, CA on January 13, 2024. He was born on May 8, 1938, in Brooklyn, New York to Kathleen L. (Mooney) Gallagher and William D. Gallagher Sr.

John had an illustrious career that spanned over three decades at IBM. After his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, he joined IBM and dedicated his professional life to the company he loved. Although he officially retired after 31 years of service, John simply couldn't stay away. He returned as a contract employee before being rehired by IBM once again.

Throughout his tenure at IBM, John became an integral part of the company's success. His dedication and commitment were widely recognized by colleagues and superiors alike. His passion for the work carried him through until his final retirement in 2003. To those who knew him well, John will always be remembered as an IBMer through and through.

While John's professional achievements were remarkable, they paled in comparison to the love and devotion he had for his family. His wife of 42 years, Robin Gallagher; his children John A. Gallagher Jr., Kathleen L. Gallagher, and William D. Gallagher; his stepdaughter Shelli C. Woodworth; his grandchildren Sean Gallagher, Ian Gallagher, Natalia Ocana, Emily Woodworth; and his four great-grandchildren were the center of John's world.

John's family meant everything to him, and he treasured every moment spent together. He was a loving husband who adored Robin with all his heart, sharing a bond built on trust and mutual respect that lasted throughout their journey together.

As a father, John was a guiding light for his children. He instilled in them strong values of integrity, compassion, and perseverance. He was always there to offer support, encouragement, and unconditional love. His children could always count on him for guidance in all aspects of life, and his legacy will continue to live on through each of them.

John was a doting grandfather who took great pleasure in the presence of his grandchildren. Sean, Ian, Natalia, and Emily brought immeasurable joy into his life. His face would light up with pride as he watched them grow and excel in their own unique ways. He cherished the special moments they shared together and cherished becoming a great-grandfather.

Aside from his family, John had a vibrant social life filled with close friends who were like family to him. He enjoyed playing golf, engaging in friendly poker nights, and spending quality time with those he held dear. His infectious laughter and warm personality drew people towards him, ensuring that every gathering was filled with joy and camaraderie.

Now that John has left this world, his absence will be deeply felt by all whose lives he touched. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. As we gather to celebrate his exceptional life, let us remember John Gallagher as a man who loved unconditionally and lived life to the fullest.
