Plaistow, NH: Dr. John W. Walsh, D.C., 90, a former Chiropractor and longtime resident of 28 Main St, died Monday, June 4, 2012 at Haverhill Crossings.
Born and raised in Lawrence, Massachusetts, son of the late John and Anna (Driscoll) Walsh, he was a member of the second graduating class of Lawrence Central Catholic High School. He worked summers as a young man at Canobie Lake Park in Salem NH and served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. Honorably discharged in 1946, he was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, The W.W.II Victory Medal, The Asiatic/Pacific Theater Campaign Medal, The American Theater Ribbon, and the Distinguished Unit Badge with Oak Leaf Cluster.
Dr. Walsh graduated from the Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1950 and was licensed and established his practice in New Hampshire in 1951 maintaining his offices at 28 Main St., Plaistow until his retirement in 2009 at which time he was the oldest practicing Chiropractor in the State of New Hampshire. He obtained his license to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1968. He also formerly owned and Udder Delight Ice Cream Stand and the Beer Baron Liquor store which he operated for many summers in Salisbury Beach.
A resident of Plaistow from 1953 until recently, Dr. Walsh was member of Holy Angels Church of Saint Luke the Evangelist Parish, Plaistow and the Carl Davis Post of the American Legion. He was also a former member of the Board of Directors of the Center for Life Management, Derry, NH.
An avid storyteller and sports fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots, Dr. Walsh also enjoyed woodworking, cooking, boating and flea markets.
The husband of the late Shirley (Moulthrop) Walsh, who died in 2003, he is survived by his son, John W. Walsh, Jr. of Derry, three daughters, Joanne W. Simpson and her husband Thomas of Hampstead, Jennifer W. Bakanosky and her companion Richard Meaney of Seabrook, and Judith W. Zaremba and her companion Leonard Meagher of Atkinson, a brother Robert T. Walsh of Berlin, MA, grandchildren, Tara Simpson, Matthew Simpson, Catherine Kirby, Adam Bakanosky, Sarah Bakanosky, Allison Connolly, Amy Zaremba and Ashley Zaremba, and four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson Michael T. Simpson in 1984, his sister Mary (Walsh) Battles and his brother Joseph P. Walsh.
Relatives and friends may call on Friday, June 8, 2012 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Route 121A, Plaistow. His funeral will be held on Saturday at 9a.m.from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10a.m. in Holy Angels Church, Plaistow. Burial will follow in Ridgewood Cemetery, North Andover, MA.
