John Erwin Crossman, 81, born on July 1, 1935 in Sedro-Wolley,Washington, passed away December 30, 2016. He resided in Glendale, California, at the time of his passing. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles, California.
My dad grew up in Sedro-Woolley Washington, and at a young age moved to Monterey, California where the family lived for many years. He attended school there then went off to college in San Francisco. He attended San Francisco State, and lived with his older brother Phil, and his wife Bobbie while he went attended SFS. About this time he met my mom Janet in San Francisco, and they were married in August 1958.
I came along in January of 1961 while dad was working for CNA Insurance in Birmingham, Michigan. We moved around the country a bit as young executives get transferred across the country with each new promotion.
We landed in Glendale, California in 1966 and decided to make that home. Dad's brother Phil lived in Glendale as well.
I have great memories with dad doing all sorts of things, working on remodeling the house, and building a new kitchen. Life was idyllic at 1430 Lee Drive.
Dad continued in the insurance business eventually opening his own office in Glendale, and did pretty well at it.
Dad taught me to fly, he had a nice Cessna 210 that we logged a lot of hours in. We would often fly to San Rafael, Ca. to visit my grand parents on moms side.
My dad tried retirement, but didn't do well sitting still, he returned to the insurance business until they finally retired to Hemet, California where they spent the last 15 years. They had a wonderful group of friends there and it wasn't too far away for us to visit.
Mom is still hanging in there, she has fairly advanced dementia and is living in wonderful convalescent care home near us in Hollywood. They did spend some time together recently on moms last birthday in September of 2016, that's the photo you see here. That was the last time they were together, I'll treasure that picture of them together forever.
John is survived by his wife Janet, son Ken, daughter in-law Cynthia, grand children Kurt & Kristine, and niece Joan Stanberry
They isn't going to be a service, it was their desire to be cremated, and we have a nice Niche for both of them at Forest Lawn in Hollywood Hills. Please let me know if you'd like the location and I'll send it to you.
Please sign the guest book if you have a moment I know the family would appreciate it.
