Atkinson,NH: John J Butler, Jr. 84, of Atkinson died Sunday, January 4, 2015 at his home, with his loving family by his side.

Born in Haverhill, MA, he was the son of the late John J. and Ida (Lemay) Butler. A lifelong resident of Atkinson, where he was raised and educated, he attended Atkinson Academy. Mr. Butler served as an Airman First Class in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict with the 93rd Squadron of the Strategic Air Command and was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

He was employed as a truck driver at Brox Industries of Dracut, MA for over twenty five years before his retirement.

A member of the NRA and the Atlantic Coast Old Timers Racing Club, he built and raced Midget Class race cars. He was an avid Red Sox and NASCAR fan, he also enjoyed vintage car races and gardening.

The husband of Lavon (Jones) Butler, with whom he enjoyed over sixty years of marriage, he is also survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Steven J. and Beverly Butler, of Enfield, ME, and Daniel B. and Vickie Butler, of Atkinson, two daughters and a son-in-law, Beth A. and Robert Knapp, of Littleton, NH, and Kelly L. Butler, of Bangor, ME, a sister Joan McCarthy, of Atkinson, five grandchildren, several great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to Mr. Butler's Life Celebration on Friday, January 9, 2015 from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow followed by his funeral service at 12:30 at the funeral home with Military Honors. Burial will take place in the Spring in Atkinson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Newton Junction Baptist Church, P.O Box 206, Newton Junction, NH or to the Hospice Organization of the donor's choice.
