John William Bennett

December 12, 1950 — June 9, 2021

John (Papa Giorgio) Bennett, father, husband, grandfather, Hawaiian shirt model, slayer of dad-jokes, dog whisperer, computer guru, and absolute legend, passed away on Wednesday, June 9th, 2021.
He is survived by his wife, two children, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter, who will undoubtedly carry on his tradition of laughter, bad jokes, air guitar, and pickled eggs from Joe Jost's (a favorite initiation for close friends and family.)
The simple pleasures in life brought John the most joy. He had a talent for making people laugh, solving problems, and learning new things. A silly movie with well-placed flatulence would always bring about a smile, and his goofy sense of humor caused friends to "laugh until they cried." To his closest buds and loved ones, he was known as "JB," or "Dude" and will always remember him as a "big brother" and a "big teddy bear" even with his big and tough exterior. He rarely hid his emotions and was known to shed a tear at the movies, when concerned for a friend, or during moments of great pride.
A wizard with a computer, John was always on call for technical support whenever someone needed help. He really loved being the one that people called on when they needed a hand, and was always happy to share his vast expertise, wisdom and most of all his time.
John's happiest times were spent with his family. He planned family vacations every year, making sure his wife and children always had an exciting experience on the horizon. Whether traveling abroad or relaxing on Catalina Island, he could often be found awake early enjoying the sunshine with a book and his morning coffee. He never missed a basketball game or performance, and in addition to world-class snuggles, was becoming a very respectable dance partner for his two-year-old granddaughter.
His shine and exuberance were on full display at Christmas time as Santa Clause, spreading his light to as many families and kids as he could reach-- all because he loved making people smile.
John's loved ones will continue to celebrate his legacy by keeping him in their hearts and minds with memories of laughter and joy.
We love you, JB!
