It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joel Rivera, who left us on June 12, 2026, in Chino, CA. Born on August 14, 1979, in Pomona, CA, Joel’s journey through life was marked by unwavering love for his family, a vibrant sense of humor, and an enduring spirit that touched everyone who knew him.
Joel devoted much of his professional life to working as a supervisor for UPS, where his dedication and leadership were deeply respected. Outside of work, he was a man of many passions. From his youth, when he played football for Bonita High School in La Verne, CA, to his enjoyment of baseball and golf throughout his life, Joel was an active and spirited individual. His love for sports extended beyond the field; he cherished going to watch his son David play baseball, basketball, and football, reveling in every game day as a treasured family tradition.
Music brought joy to Joel’s heart, and his infectious laughter could brighten any room. He had a remarkable ability to lift the spirits of those around him. A favorite memory shared by those close to him recalls how he consistently had new ideas for foods to try and places to visit, breaking the monotony of everyday routines and inspiring a sense of adventure. Joel’s big heart was apparent in every aspect of his life, especially in the deep love and respect he held for his wife Angelica Villegas, his son David Rivera, and the close-knit family that meant the world to him.
Family was the cornerstone of Joel’s life. He was a devoted husband and father, a protective and loving brother to Dinorah Rivera, Lupita Moreno, Christina Macias and held his mother, Esperanza Rivera, in the highest regard. Joel also treasured the companionship of his dogs, Dodger and Canela, who were beloved members of the family. His late father, Joel R. Rivera, remains in the hearts of all who remember him. Joel valued lifelong friendships and treasured every moment spent in the company of those dear to him. During his most difficult days, he was especially grateful for the unwavering support, kindness, and friendship of Miguel, Yani, Danny and his brother in law Eduardo. Their visits, encouragement, and presence brought him comfort and reminded him how deeply he was cared and loved.
For the last 15 years, Joel faced the challenge of end-stage kidney failure with remarkable courage, spending much of that time on dialysis. Yet, even through these trials, his spirit never waned. He remained a pillar of strength and love, focusing on what mattered most, his family and the simple joys of life, like discovering new culinary delights with Angelica and cheering on David’s athletic pursuits.
The community will gather to honor Joel’s memory and celebrate his life at two funeral services. The first will be held on July 1, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Forest Lawn, Covina Hills, Church of our Heritage, located at 21300 Via Verde Drive, Covina, CA 91724. A second service will follow on July 2, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 14085 Peyton Drive, Chino Hills, CA 91709. Followed by the graveside service at Forest Lawn.
Joel Rivera’s legacy is one of steadfast love, joyful laughter, and an enduring commitment to family. His kindness, humor, and adventurous spirit will remain alive in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered as a man who made life richer with his presence.
Rest in peace, Joel. Your love and light will forever guide us.
