JOANN J. JOHNSON was born in Los Angeles, CA, August 29, 1928 and died February 19, 2026 in Palm Desert California.
Father: Walter Sharpless Johnson
Mother: Mildred Emma Regina Stevens Johnson
Survived By: Half-brother James Hugh Johnson and Half-nephew Christopher Cox
Preceded in Death: First Cousins: Betty Jean Snook, Myra Dean Thompson, John Dennis Hill
Joann graduated high school in the Los Angeles area. She then went on to complete a 3-year ministerial course at LIFE Bible College, Los Angeles, CA.
Early in her working years, Joann was employed by Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company, and The Foursquare Gospel Church, Department of Youth and Christian Education.
From 1967 to retiring in 1990 Joann worked for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Joann had been active in gospel ministry most of her life; which began by singing at missions in downtown Los Angeles and in church when she was a child. She credits her rich Christian heritage to the teachings and example of her Godly mother.
Joann was a Free-lance Author/Artist/Composer/Dramatist & Vocalist under her business name– "Forever Melodies”. She had written several Biblically-based musical dramas, such as "Jochebed's Boy" the story of Moses; “Angel On Assignment” a children’s Christmas musical, "They Call Me a King" - the life of David, “Collect Those Taxes” - the story of Zacchaeus, “Well Shut My Mouth, God Shut the Door!” - the story of Noah, “My Favorite Son” - Joseph, “Living Water” - the story of the Samaritan woman…and others.
She was a Self-published author of "Forever Poetry," and after her mother’s death, finished her book "The Other Cross" which was published in August 2002. She had also created PowerPoint slideshows for her church and various occasions. Many of her videos are on www.youtube.com/jojay28.
Joann moved to Del Webb Sun City, Palm Desert in 2002, where she was active in the Sun City Singers choir. In March 2013, she moved to The Carlotta and was part of The Singing Fountains.
Until very recently, she led songs and directed a small singing group for the Chapel services at The Carlotta.
The power of Joann’s life was rooted in her deep faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Celebration of Life service will be held at The Carlotta, 41505 Carlotta Drive, Palm Desert, CA 92211 on March 11th, 2026 at 2:30 in the auditorium.
