Jimmy Ma

March 31, 1972 — May 25, 2024

Jimmy Ma was born in Hong Kong on March 1972 to parents Cheun and Yuen Yung Ma.  He was the youngest of three children.  He passed away too soon in May 2024 from cancer at the age 52 after three demanding years of battle against the disease.

At the age of four, he moved to Los Angeles with his family where he spent the rest of his life.  He grew up attending the local schools in Southern California and ultimately graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Economics from UCLA.

He started his professional career as a bid coordinator in sales with Merisel in 1996.  He continued to hone his professional skill in the entertainment industry with companies such as Sony and Twentieth Century Fox and reached the position of Senior Finance Manager of Strategic Sourcing.

He enjoyed watching light comedies such as Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Arrested Development, among others.  Having worked at entertainment, he had the opportunity to see some of the sets of his favorite shows as well as impromptu encounters with famous actor and actresses.   He had a good time rooting for the L.A. Lakers and kept up other sports especially those made famous by his alma mater at UCLA.  He was a collector of comic books with particular interest in the Spiderman and X-men series.  He also spent relaxation time listening to bands such as the Cranberries, U2, and Coldplay along with popular music from the 90s.

His favorite holiday was Christmas.  He loved catching up with family at the annual Christmas gatherings and had some fond memories of viewing the neighborhood Christmas lights and decorations.  Some of his favorite recollections included Easter egg hunts and trick o’ treating with his niece and nephew on Halloween when they were young.

He is survived by his mother, two sisters, his brother-in-law, his niece and nephew, as well as various uncles, aunts, and cousins.  He was engaging, often sentimental and sociable. He will be greatly missed.

A memorial event is being planned.  Details will be forthcoming.
