Jim Ahn

June 2, 1950 — April 5, 2026

Jim Ahn, a devoted family man, accomplished entrepreneur, and beloved community figure, passed away on April 5, 2026, in Los Angeles, California. Born on June 2, 1950, in Seoul, South Korea, Jim’s life was a remarkable journey marked by perseverance, hard work, and an enduring commitment to those he loved.

Jim’s story is one of triumph and dedication. Arriving in America with only eighty dollars in his pocket, he seized the American Dream with extraordinary determination, building a multifaceted business empire. As the proud owner of Mr Burger and The Original Deli with multiple locations, he satisfied countless appetites with his passion for fast food, especially his fondness for classic burgers like the Double Double, Whopper, Jumbo Jack, and Big Mac. His ventures extended beyond the restaurant industry into hotel ownership, with successful management of Ramada Inn, Best Western, Country Inn and Suites, and Comfort Suites. Jim’s acumen also flourished in real estate entrepreneurship, reflecting his commitment to hard work and business excellence.

A man of remarkable spirit, Jim served his country with honor and valor. He served in the Korean Military, undertaking a tour of duty during the Vietnam War. Later, he joined the United States Army from March 1976 to June 1980, earning the distinguished Army Commendation Medal of Marksman. This chapter of his life exemplified his courage and dedication.

More than his business achievements, Jim was cherished for his warm personality. He was the life of every gathering, a man who transcended language and cultural barriers with ease. Always generous with his time, Jim had a heartfelt desire to help others, whether by saving anyone money or simply sharing a laugh. His quick wit and comedic spirit brought joy to friends and family alike, ensuring that every room he entered was brighter for his presence.

Jim’s passions extended to the great outdoors and shared moments with loved ones. He especially loved golfing, often dreaming of days spent on the course. He treasured long drives across the country, finding solace and happiness in the peaceful moments with family during their travels. Holiday meals gathered around the table were another cornerstone of his life, creating memories steeped in love and togetherness.

His family was the center of his world. Jim was a devoted husband to his wife, Connie Ahn, and a proud father to two accomplished children, Diana Ahn and Brian Ahn. He delighted in being a grandfather to Philip and Micah Ahn, and he warmly embraced his daughter-in-law, Grace Ahn. Jim took immense pride in providing a better life for his family, celebrating the academic successes of his college graduate children with great joy.

Tragically, Jim’s life was cut short by illness. Diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a form of bone and blood cancer, he bravely fought through treatment. Complications arose when pneumonia led to a bacterial infection from which his resilient body could not recover. His passing leaves a profound void for all who knew him.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Ahn Chong Ho and Ahn Chun Young. Their memory lives on through the legacy he created—a life defined by love, hard work, and generosity.
