Jesus Chungtuyco Ramos

January 1, 1933 — October 5, 2017

Jesus Chungtuyco Ramos, "Jess", 84 of Lakewood, passed away on October 5, 2017. Jess was born in Plaridel, Bulacan in the Philippines on January 1, 1933. While an engineering student at the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1954 at the age of 21. He proudly served for 20 years including a tour of duty in Vietnam. After his honorable discharged he served in the Naval Reserve and started a second career at the Naval Shipyard in Long Beach, CA, where he worked for 20 years before retiring in 1994. Jess was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Disabled Veterans Association and the Fleet Reserve Association.

While serving in the Navy he met his beloved wife, Merarda, and they were married in 1958 in Quezon City, Philippines. During their marriage they were stationed throughout California, the Midwest and the Philippines. Jess and Merarda moved to Lakewood, CA in 1972 where they raised their family.

Jess is survived by his wife of 59 years Merarda E. Ramos, his daughter Cecilia Kret (Marty), son Jesse (Jennifer), two grandsons David and Mitchell Kret, and granddaughter Zoe Ramos. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, as well as grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.

Jess was beloved and treasured by his family and friends. He leaves this world a happier place. He always graced us with his big smile and sense of humor. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to a neighbor. His biggest joy was to delight his grand children. He would pop a habanero pepper into his mouth and declare how sweet it was. He would pretend to take a bite of a grandchild's ice cream as they giggled and said, "No, Papa-Dad. It's mine." He would show the kids where the candy was hidden and make sure their pockets were stuffed with it. To his final days he always loved children and would flirt with them from across the busiest restaurant. His monikers included "Papa", "Papa-Dad", and "Lolo".

Visitation will be Friday, November 3rd from 2 pm until 9 pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4471 Lincoln Ave., Cypress, CA
Funeral service will be Saturday, November 4th at 11:30 am at Forest Lawn Chapel of Our Fathers. He will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn.
