Jesus F Diaz

November 23, 1943 — September 27, 2017

Jesús "Chuy" F. Díaz, 73, was born on November 21, 1943 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico to parents Tomás Díaz and Romana Fernández Díaz. He passed away from complications of stomach cancer at home surrounded by his family on September 27, 2017.

Jesús is survived by his beloved wife María Teresa Díaz, son Jesús Díaz (Chelsea Díaz) and granddaughter Julieta-Marie Díaz, daughter Fabiola Bermudez (Alvaro Bermudez) and granddaughter Camila Maria Bermudez, and son Andrés Díaz.

Jesús was the youngest in his family of five sisters and two brothers. He came to live in Los Angeles, California in 1980, where he met his wife Maria Teresa.

In his years before coming to Los Angeles, Jesús was part of the Missionaries of Guadalupe where he had the opportunity to travel to different parts of the world and live in Kenya for five years. Upon coming to the US, Jesús eventually began working for a trucking company that delivered to Trader Joe's, where he established his career and eventually retired at the age of 66.

As a devoted member of the Catholic Church he began his involvement as a parishioner at St. Gregory Nazianzen in South LA. In 1994, when the family moved to the San Fernando Valley after purchasing a house, he became a member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal, where he would attend church with his family every Sunday morning and was an usher for the 9:00 a.m. mass.

Jesús was an avid reader and his passion for reading led to a substantial growth in his book collection over his lifetime. He enjoyed a variety of genres from science fiction to legal thrillers to historical novels and looked forward to reading his favorite series including Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, and The Walking Dead comics.

Among other hobbies, Jesús loved traveling and exploring new places, going to the movie theatres, working on puzzles, watching popular TV series, going to Dodger games and the Notre Dame vs USC football game, and watching soccer and football games –he was a Chivas fanatic, Cowboys fan, and strong supporter of El Tri.

Breakfast was Jesús' favorite meal of the day. He especially enjoyed breakfast on Sundays after church and in the company of his family. Among some of his favorite foods were menudo, clam chowder, crepes, barbacoa, and sushi. He also enjoyed anything María Teresa made for him—especially her short ribs in salsa verde, and chicharrón in salsa verde and salsa roja.

Jesús treasured his family dearly, and had an unconditional love for his wife and children. A fond memory his children recall were all the summers their father treated them to visiting the Southern California theme parks: Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, Universal Studios, Raging Waters and Magic Mountain.

Jesús was exceptionally kind, had a great sense of humor, and was loved and admired by many. He inspired many by the hard work and sacrifices he made to provide for his family and his ability to instill curiosity and respect for the world in his children. He will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
