Jerry K. Lynn, M.D. Ph.D., 77, beloved brother, father, grandfather, and uncle, passed away on December 25, 2014 at Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. He was born on May 10, 1937 in Taipei, Taiwan to Jacob and Gwen Lynn.
Jerry grew up in Taipei, Taiwan. He graduated from high school there as one of the top students in the country. He earned a medical degree at university in Taiwan and then he immigrated to the United States in his early twenties. First he arrived in California where he attended medical school at UCLA. He transferred to the University of Pittsburgh where he finished with a Ph.D. in pathology. He practiced pathology in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and then at the University of Florida, and eventually became the chief of pathology at the San Fernando Valley VA hospital in California. Desiring a change in his career, he went back to school in the late 1970s to become a family physician. He had a private family practice in Burbank, California, where he was also an attending physician at Providence St. Joseph Hospital, from 1980 until he sold his practice in 1991 to join a medical group. He retired from medicine in 2005.
Jerry met and married Willa Mead in 1969 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They had two daughters, Amorisa and Gwenda. They were happily married for 37 years until Willa's passing in 2007. Jerry was a member of Rotary International while he had his medical practice in Burbank. He and Willa were always active members of the Presbyterian Church in whichever community they were living in: St. Stephen's in Chatsworth, California, and Burbank Presbyterian Church to name just a couple. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren, his dogs, reading about history, jokes, action movies, travel, classical music, and art. Jerry will be remembered for his sharp intellect, creativity, curiosity, and his enormous generosity.
Jerry is survived by his daughter Amorisa Denzel of Ventura, California, daughter Gwenda Cuesta of Burbank, California, brother Paul Lynn of Eagle Rock, California, grandsons Zion Denzel and Emilio Cuesta V, granddaughters XuXu Denzel and Giada Cuesta, several nieces and nephews, and his late wife's brother Walter Mead of Monroeville, Pennsylvania and sister Jimmi Mead of Canada. Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Gwen, his father, Jacob, and his wife, Willa.
There will be a graveside funeral service at Forest Lawn Glendale, on Friday January 2nd, 2015 at 2:00pm at the Terrace of Morning Calm.
