Jerry Walter Lawson

Dr. Jerry Walter Lawson, 85, passed away on January 15, 2016 in Sherman Oaks, California.

Jerry was born on December 8, 1930 in Grand Island, Nebraska. As a young lad, he was a dedicated paper boy and devoted altar boy. He was not only an honor student, but also a superb athlete, excelling in both baseball and football. Jerry continued his education at Omaha University before enlisting in the United States Air Force, where he served as Captain piloting F84 and F86 jets. After his service, he completed his undergraduate studies by obtaining a degree in electrical engineering. He then went on to attend the University of Nebraska College of Medicine. Following medical school, Jerry completed his internship at St. Mary's Hospital in Tucson, Arizona. Jerry was a general practitioner at The Kersten Clinic in Fort Dodge, Iowa before completing a residency in pathology at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. Ultimately, Jerry became a partner of the Kaiser Permanente Medical Group, Los Angeles (Pathology Department). Jerry was well-respected by the medical community and faithfully served the Southern California area for 23 years before retiring in 1995. During retirement, Jerry enjoyed playing golf with his loving wife Joan and taking cruises around the world together.

Jerry and Joan were happily married for 62 wonderful years. Together they raised a remarkable family which included four children: David Gerald Lawson (Doctor), Daniel Joseph Lawson (Financier), Jerry Keith Lawson (Director of Laboratory Technology Services at Kaiser Permanente), and Mary Beth Lawson (Banker). Their children went on to bless them with five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The grandchildren include: Shana Marie Bereche (Attorney), Derek Thomas Lawson (Attorney), Alexander David Lawson (Salesman), Alyssa Rae Lawson (Make Up Designory Student), and Charlie Pence Lawson (Student). Their great-grandchildren include: Sloane Marie, Talon Ryan, Leighton Shay, and Slade Justin Bereche. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law Sylvia Lawson.

Jerry will be sorely missed by his family, friends and all that knew him.
