Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jerry Junior DeBoer, a beloved husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather, and steadfast friend. Jerry peacefully departed this world on March 27, 2026, just two days shy of his 85th birthday. Born on March 29, 1941, in Artesia, California, Jerry was a beacon of kindness and strength to all who knew him.

Jerry was the cherished son of Jerry and Sadie DeBoer and was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Jack, Ray, and Floyd, his sisters Alyda and Nelvina, his son Jerry Allen, and his grandson Dustin Louis. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Joyce Munneke DeBoer, with whom he shared a life full of love and adventure.

He attended Bellflower Christian School and Valley Christian High School, before marrying the love of his life, Joyce.

Jerry and Joyce's journey together began on June 30, 1959, when they wed at the 3rd Dutch Reformed Church in Bellflower, California. Together, they raised their family in Bellflower, Bellevue, Washington, and Long Beach, California. Jerry was the proud father of four beautiful children: his daughters Terry (and Louie Valencia), Pam (and Rick Pluimer), and Kelly, as well as his daughter-in-law Dawn (and Kevin Teal). His legacy continues through his 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, who were a constant source of joy and pride for him. He is also survived by his sisters Chib Bangma and Loraine Barnes.

Hard work was important to Jerry, as he began his career working with his hands, milking cows, and embarking on construction work. His skill and dedication shone in the craft of drywall work.

In 1973, Jerry and Joyce returned to Southern California from Washington to start a new chapter with a Hallmark retail business, which they nurtured with diligence and passion.

Jerry was a pillar of the communities he served. As an active member and elder of Trinity Christian Center in Artesia and later at Cornerstone Church, he led with humility and grace. His leadership extended to Bible studies and men's groups, where he inspired many with his unwavering faith and devotion to Christ. Jerry's generosity knew no bounds; he was always ready to lend a helping hand, especially to the widows of the church and those in need of his handyman skills.

A man of deep faith, Jerry embraced life with a heart full of compassion and a spirit of adventure. He found joy in helping others and engaging in meaningful discussions on faith.

Alongside Joyce, he found pleasure in running marathons and biking along the beautiful California coast, and camping with family, treasuring each moment of their shared journey. Jerry's life was a testament to love, faith, and service. His kindness, consistency in beliefs, and willingness to share his faith left an indelible mark on everyone he met. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of Jerry's life will be held on April 10, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Cornerstone Church, located at 4905 La Palma Ave., Anaheim, CA 92807. He will be interned at Forest Lawn-Cypress, located at 4471 Lincoln Ave., Cypress, CA 90630

Family and friends are invited to join in honoring a remarkable man who lived a life of purpose and grace.
