Jennie Lausch (maiden name Wolze) was born on 3/6/1925 in Mulkeytown, Illinois and passed away peacefully at home on 4/19/2015 in Glendale, California at the age of 90. She was the youngest of 13 children born of Ana Ward Eldridge and Charles Wolze. Her siblings included Harland and Fred Eldridge (from Christopher, IL), Mathew Eldridge (from Temple City, CA), Ray, Roy, and Troy Wolze (from LA, CA), Martin Wolze (from La Crescenta, CA), Alice Butler and Ed Wolze (from Mulkeytown, IL), Irene McCulley (from Lynwood, CA), Alice Wright (from LA, CA), and Amanda Cockran (from Collinsville, IL). She also had a twin brother, Johnny Wolze who died at birth. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Lausch who passed on 1/28/2014.
Jennie grew up on a farm in Mulkeytown where at a very young age she tended to chores to help the family. Because her father, Charles, was blind, she helped guide him around the farm. Her older brothers tended to get Jennie in trouble because of the blindness of her father, he mistakenly reprimanded her for practical jokes of her brothers. At any rate, the work ethic learned on the farm along with respect for her parents lasted throughout her life.
Jennie moved to California along with the Wolze family around 1941. She took jobs of waitress, factory worker, and was employed for awhile at the Wolze Brothers Hardware store in LA, CA. It was in LA that she met and married Milton Lausch in 1948 where they remained married for 65 years until his passing in 2014. Around the same time as her marriage, she decided to leave factory work behind and applied for an office job at California Casualty Insurance Company. She worked there for 50 years and last year attended the 100th anniversary party of the company.
Besides work, Jennie enjoyed her family and friends, dance parties (many of which she hosted at her home in Glendale, CA), bowling, pinochle, camping, and trips to the casinos in San Manuel, CA, Las Vegas and Laughlin, NV.
In 1997, she retired and a few years later was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. Although the disease progressed it never dampened her spirits. She even underwent Deep Brain Stimulation surgery (to help with the Parkinson's Disease) as the oldest patient undergoing the surgery by her neurosurgeon at 86 years old. At the same time, she celebrated her birthday with a catered party with friends and family and was still able to dance around. Later, even though wheelchair bound, she still enjoyed going out to eat, the bowling alley, listening to live music, and would be fully animated putting a smile on friends and strangers faces.
Jennie leaves behind a son, Donald Lausch of Glendale, CA and will be deeply missed. Her services will be held at Forest Lawn – Hollywood Hills, CA on Saturday May 9th at Old North Church at 2:30 pm.
