Jean Effal Carlin

Dr. Jean Effal Carlin, age 86, passed away peacefully at her home in Seal Beach, California on June 6, 2017. Dr. Jean was born in Hibbing, Minnesota, on July 24, 1930. As a child, Dr. Jean lived in many cities until her father's death in 1937. Her mother, Effal Anderson Carlin, returned to Minnesota after her husband's passing, to raise Jean and her younger sister Joan.

Dr. Jean grew up to be quite a scholar; earning an MD and PHD from the University of Minnesota. She went on to teach psychology at North Park College, Illinois, opened a family practice in Long Beach, California, became a teacher and a Dean at the University California Irvine Medical School, went on many medical missions to Vietnam, served our country in the National Guard as a doctor, taught at a medical school in Oklahoma, and was a forensic psychiatrist for L.A. County.

Dr. Jean is survived by her sister, Joan Wallin
Niece and Nephew: Robin Faienza and Scott Wallin
Great Nephews and Niece: Antonio and Ciro Faienza(the twins), and Lyndsey and Nicolas Wallin
Great,Great Nephews: Ilario and Nicodemo Faienza, and many "adopted" nieces and nephews all over the world.

A service will be held at the Los Altos United Methodist Church in Long Beach, California on June 26th at 10:30AM.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Los Altos United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Cypress, California.
