Jay Gibbs McCall went to Heaven, January 11, 2021. He was born on a farm in Alberta, Canada, December 16, 1925 and moved with his family to Tacoma Washington in 1933. He graduated high school June of 1944 and began serving in the U.S. Army as a Paratrooper in Europe, during WWII. When the war ended, he returned to the states aboard the RMS Queen Mary. He returned to Washington state, attended University of Puget Sound and earned his BA in Business Administration. He met Merle Jessie Hammerud at Arthur Murray dance studio in 1949 – she a dance teacher, he an accountant – they married 6 months later. Merle preceded him in death 11/10/04 – they were married 54 years. He also earned a Masters in Taxation, retired in 1988 from a career in Aerospace and began working on taxes as a second career. He was kind, wise and generous. He loved the Lord and read scripture until the end of his days - the book of John was his favorite. He was a founding member of Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, Los Alamitos and active in supporting community concerns in Cypress, CA, where he raised his family. Son, Kevin Gibbs McCall, died in a private airplane accident in 1986. Jay is survived by daughter Karen (Kari) Rae McCall-Rodems, son-in-law Chuck Rodems and his beloved grandchildren, Corey Richard and Jaymie Rachel, his namesake. And, though they were born 91 years apart, he was great-papa and a kindred spirit with his great grandson, 4 year old Weston Charles - they shared a love of ice cream, cookies, and rides on great-papa's walker. Jay endured Parkinson's disease for more than 20 years before contracting COVID19 and losing that battle - He was 95 years old.
