Janice Upstone

Janice Upstone, 89, born on May 27, 1924, in Los Angeles, California, passed away December 16, 2013. Born to Earl and Ruth Mendenhall, she was raised in Los Angeles and then San Gabriel. She graduated from the Maybelle Scott School for Girls and the Sawyer School of Business. While working at Cannon Electric in the early '40's, she met the love of her life, Harlan Upstone. They married in 1946 and built their home in Arcadia, California, shortly after. Raising three children, Janice was involved with Cub Scouts, Girls Scouts, and Camp Fire Girls. In the late '60's / early '70's, she served as the President of the Arcadia Child Health Council. With the kids grown, she returned to work in 1972 as a legal secretary for the law firm of Draper and Kramer in Monrovia. Then, in 1989, Harlan and Janice moved to a beautiful townhouse in Glendora to enjoy retirement free from the maintenance of yard and pool. They enjoyed 55 years of marriage until his passing in 2001. She is survived by their children Judy Bucci and her husband Joe, Bill Upstone and his wife Sheila, and Sheri Adams and her husband Jay; two grandchildren, Robin Elgin and Melanie Upstone, and four step-grandchildren, Lisa Bucci Stover, Matt Bucci, Amanda Adams James and Jaylin Adams. She also leaves behind a brother, Earl Mendenhall, Jr. and his wife Ruth. In addition to Harlan, she is predeceased by her sister Beverly. She resided in Monrovia, California, at the time of her passing. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Covina, California.
