Janice Holman, 80, of San Juan Capistrano, California, passed away on January 13th, 2016 due to her battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family.
Janice is survived by her husband Curtis Holman, daughters Diane Anderson and Jennifer Yaklyvich, her stepson Randal Holman, her brother Bill Knight, her seven grandchildren and her seven great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and by her son, Patrick Figelski.
Jan was born in Hollywood, California on October 22nd, 1935. She and her parents moved to Hawaii and lived there during the beginning of World War II and through the bombing of Pearl Harbor in December of 1941. Shortly thereafter, the family move back to Malibu, California. Jan graduated from Compton High School and went on to attend college in Tucson, Arizona where she developed her love of storytelling and studied journalism.
Her career began at the Tucson Tribune where she had her very first column published. Later on, she moved back to California where she then became the publicist for Tennessee Ernie Ford at KTLA Studios. At one time, she was also the personal secretary for Colonel J. Gotlieb of Beverly Hills. Jan had endless stories and adventures of life in Hollywood.
Eventually, her career and travels led her down the coast to Orange County to work as an administrator at the San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant. Here is where she met her husband, Curtis. Jan and Curtis moved to Illinois and decided to become an entrepreneur and co-owner duo of a successful sign manufacturing company in Lisle, Illinois. Jan and Curtis eventually returned to Southern California to enjoy retirement and to be near their family and friends.
Jan loved the beauty of nature, whether it was the mountains, the deserts, or the beaches. A favorite pastime of hers was to walk along the shore line and collect sea shells, stones, and beach glass. She loved to travel and has been all over Mexico, Ireland, England, and other areas in the United Kingdom. Jan loved the excitement of big cities with all of the shopping, amazing restaurants, and of course, people watching. Jan could make friendly conversation with anybody and she never knew a stranger.
She had a winning personality â a smile and charm that came naturally to her. She has many friends and she will be greatly missed, as well as she will miss all of us.
Jan has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warriors Foundation
