Janet Marie Tomasin

Janet was born in Akron, Ohio on May 25, 1933 and married there on June 11, 1955. She moved to Rossmoor, California in 1972 with her husband and family. After raising her children, she started college in 1976 and eventually began a new career as a social worker. She received both her bachelor's degree and masters in social work from Cal State Long Beach in 1986 and 1990, respectively. At age 62, she became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) for the State of California, working 15 years well into her 70s on behalf of the developmentally disabled at Lanterman Developmental Center in Pomona, California. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Charles, sons Jeff, Gregory, and Brian, and daughter Kathy Bokemeyer of Bloomington, IL, and granddaughters Lauren, Brianna, and Madeline. She is also survived by her sister June Marlowe of Winchester, Tennessee, and her brother Kenneth Witter of Akron, Ohio. She dedicated many years raising her family of 4 active children. Janet was always kind and generous and was an inspiration to us all. She quietly passed away on August 17, 2017, at age 84, due to complications from pneumonia. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. A funeral service will be held at St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Los Alamitos, CA at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 25th, followed by internment at Forest Lawn in Cypress. A lunch reception will be held at Brian and Elizabeth Tomasin's home afterwards. Please join us as we celebrate Janet's life and legacy.
