Janet Mary (Smallidge) (Ryan) Marra, 83, of Plaistow, NH died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on September 27, 2015.
Janet was twice widowed, predeceased by her first husband John Edward Ryan, with whom she had seven children while residing in Merrimac, MA. She later married Cosimo Marra, to whom she was married to for 28 years, before he passed in August of 2014. Janet and Cos shared a great life, full of traveling, camping and antiquing.
Born and raised in Georgetown, MA, Janet was the daughter of the Late Nathan and Helen (McKinney) Smallidge. She was educated in the Georgetown schools. Early in her life and when not being a fulltime homemaker, she worked for the former Grant's Department Store and later at Oxford Manor Nursing Home.
An avid gardener, Janet was also a longtime bird watcher, and took great pleasure in observing them and being able to identify each species.
She is survived by her children, John Ryan and his wife Katie Ryan of Haverhill, and daughters, Pam Ryan and her husband Michael Page of Amesbury, Joanne Hamel and her husband Gene Hamel of Amesbury, Barbara Ryan of Plaistow NH, Jennifer Borden Bradford Ma, Heidi Voulgaris and her husband Peter Voulgaris from Haverhill. She is also survived by daughter-in-law Patricia Ryan of Newton NH, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great, great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and her beloved cat Mabel.
Janet was predeceased by her son, Christopher James Ryan (Chuck) , sister Joan Anderson, brother Robert Smallidge, grandson Brandon Croteau, and son in-law Michael Penta.
Janet's family is eternally grateful for the assistance, care and comfort that the Plaistow Fire and Rescue have repeatedly and consistently provided her, and her late husband, over the years. In lieu of flowers ask that donations be made to Plaistow Fire and Rescue Department.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her graveside service on Friday, October 2, 2015 at 10 a.m. in Locust Grove Cemetery, Merrimac, MA.
