Janet Heathcoat

Janet Heathcoat, beloved mother, sister, teacher, and friend, passed away on January 2nd, 2025, in her longtime Covina home.

Born on October 16, 1945, in Michigan City, Indiana, Janet dedicated her life to nurturing young minds as an elementary school teacher for an incredible 38 years. Her passion for education and her genuine love for her students left an indelible mark on countless lives, shaping future generations with her patience and kindness. 

Janet’s love extended beyond the classroom to her cherished pets, her constant companions and sources of joy. She had a special bond with her cats, Fred and Robin, and her loyal dog, Thor. Their unconditional love brought her comfort and happiness in the final years of her life. She was also an avid fan of Pat Boone for 70 years and a collector of antique dolls. 

She is survived by her four children, Scott, Elizabeth, James, and Mary, and her loving sister, Sandra. She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald, and her parents, Paul and Lillian. Her family will forever treasure the memories of her humor, storytelling, and unwavering support.

A memorial service to celebrate Janet’s life will be held on January 17th at 3 PM at Forest Lawn Covina Hills, California. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to The Turtle and Tortoise Rescue of Arroyo Grande or The City of Hope.

Janet will be deeply missed but forever remembered with love.
