Mrs. Jane E. (Turner) Cole, 77, of Atkinson, NH, died peacefully on Friday, February 10, 2012, at her home surrounded by her family.  

Born in Hartford, CT, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Catherine (Leatham) Turner.  Raised in Richmond, VA, she attended Richmond Business College.  She worked as a Secretary at the University of Maine and was the longtime Administrative Assistant to the Atkinson Board of Selectman until her retirement in 1991.   She was the correspondent for the Town of Atkinson, first for the Haverhill Gazette and later for the Plaistow News. She also was the author of a weekly column for the Eagle Tribune entitled "The Coal Bin"' and author of the book, "Atkinson, Then and Now"'.

A member of the Atkinson Congregational Church and former den mother for the Atkinson Cub Scout pack, she was a former member of the Town Budget Committee and took part in the town census as well as town elections and was a former "Atkinson Citizen of the Year"'.  She was a longtime summer resident of Machiasport, ME and a member of the local Historical Society.

She is survived by four sons and a daughter-in-law, Warren D. Cole of Litchfield, Bruce M. Cole of Methuen, MA, Roy H. and Jane Cole of Hudson and Ralph F. Cole of E. Hampsted; three daughters and sons-in-law, Karyn L. and James P. Mahoney of Plymouth, MA, Carol L. and Randy Houle of Salem and Robin E. Malone of Atkinson; four grandchildren, Jessica Oliveri, Kristin Mahoney, Kelly Mahoney and Maraya Malone; one great grand-daughter, Lacey Oliveri and several nieces and nephews.  She was pre-deceased by a grandson, Miles J. Malone.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service to be held on Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at 10:30 AM at the Atkinson Congregational Church.  There are no calling hours.
