James Douglas "Doug" Sorchilla, 69, of La Quinta, CA suddenly and unexpectedly passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2016 after suffering a massive ischemic cerebral vascular accident/stroke.
He was born on September 3, 1946 to James Vincent Sorchilla and Christine Wright in Johnstown, PA. Doug served in the United States Air Force from 1964-1994 achieving the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He began his service in Security Police where he became a K-9 dog handler receiving numerous awards while stationed in England. In 1973, he transferred to Air Force Recruiting Service where he ended his career in the highest position available as the Senior Enlisted Advisor . His second career took him to San Jose, CA where he was assigned in charge of recruitment while assisting in the setting up of a new school for ITT Technical Institute. After this school became established, he moved onto Culver City, CA to assume the duties as Recruitment Director. In 1995, he began his third career as a Compliance Officer with Primerica Financial Services. Again, his travels would take him to interesting parts of the world and throughout the United States where he would meet new people and reunite with friends. In 1999, his expertise in the field was negotiated for by Primerica Platinum Management where he worked.
Throughout his life, Doug easily made friends and was quickly respected by all those who knew and loved him. His immense passion for motorcycle riding and sailing took him to new levels throughout his life. In fact, Doug's family and friends are convinced he rode his celestial motorcycle through the Gates of Heaven where he was greeted with open arms by his parents whom he deeply loved and missed.
In addition to a multitude of treasured friends, Doug is survived by his "Bride" of 32 years who was the "love of his life", Vickie, and the family who adored and always demonstrated unconditional love for him - Jeri, Chase (Aurora), Summer (Paul), Steve, Matthew, Austin, Brittany, Mercedez, Vanessa, Analee, RJ, and Charles (Helen).
In honor of and in keeping with Doug's request, no funeral/memorial service will be held. To "honor" Doug's life, multiple "Celebrations Of Life" are being planned. However, Doug's youngest brother has deeply disrespected his wish with a proverbial slap across Doug's face and is holding a memorial service anyway at his denominational church in his place of residence in Pittsburgh, PA.
