Jim was born on March 18, 1941, at Fort Benning, GA, the only son of James Wilburn Roney who served in the US Army in WWII in Italy and Ms. Louise Pettus. His parents divorced when he was young and his mom remarried Mr. Ray Dunham, also a US Army veteran and shortly thereafter the family moved from Samson, Alabama to California in 1945. Jim grew up mainly in Compton, CA where he graduated from Brethren High School in 1959. There he also met Ms. Melinda Lee Moore and the two married on April 18, 1962 and had two children, Mr. John Roney and Ms. Pamela Roney. The family ended up settling in Yorba Linda, CA in 1971.
For his career, Jim worked mainly in the home hardware supply industry and became a salesman for The International Door and Window Company for a distinguished 20+ year career. He also branched out along the way to become an entrepreneur during that time by starting his own home hardware company in Corona, CA which provided windows, doors, mirrors, tub enclosures, etc. to custom home builders in the San Bernardino and Riverside Counties during the late 70's. He retired from these endeavors in 1991. From there, he truly enjoyed his role as "Papa" to six grandchildren, spending all the time he could with them and attending all the special events in their lives that he could make.
He is survived by his half-sister, Ms. Belinda Dunham of Howard, OH, his half-brother, Mr. Terry Roney, of Geneva, AL, his son, Mr. John Roney of Marietta, GA and daughter, Ms. Pamela Roney of Newport Beach, CA.
