James Rice

James "Jim" Rice, a beloved husband, father, son, brother and uncle passed away on November 22, 2025, in Los Angeles, California. Born on May 24, 1965, in New York. Jim dedicated his life to his family, his friends, and the work that he so enjoyed. A chartered financial analyst, Jim spent the last 15 years of his career with the Los Angeles County Employee Retirement Association as a Principal Investment Officer. 

Jim’s journey through life was marked by an insatiable thirst for knowledge. He attended acclaimed Regis High School in New York City, earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Rice University and a master’s in business administration from UCLA Anderson School of Management. His intelligence, combined with a wonderful sense of humor, made him not only interesting but a joy to be around. He was kind and welcoming, always ready to share a laugh or an insightful conversation, whether the topic was a reality show or today's news.

As a proud father to his sons, Joshua and Nathaniel Hurley Rice, Jim cherished his role as a parent who found immense joy in nurturing their growth and supporting their dreams. Family meant everything to him, and he created a warm and loving environment for all who entered his life, including hosting countless visitors in both Los Angeles and Palm Springs.

He is survived by his husband, Steve Hurley, sons Joshua and Nathaniel. Jim is also remembered fondly by his family, Helga Freni Rice, John and Tara Rice, Gerald Rice, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom will carry his love and laughter in their hearts.

A visitation will be held in Jim’s honor on December 9, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Forest Lawn - Glendale - Wee Kirk o' the Heather, located at 1712 South Glendale Avenue, Glendale, CA 91205. Funeral services will follow on December 10, 2025, at 10:00 AM at All Saints Episcopal Church, 132 North Euclid Avenue, Pasadena, CA 91101.

The memory of Jim Rice will forever be cherished by all who knew him, a beacon of kindness, humor, and unwavering support. His legacy will be carried on through the love of his family and the impact he made.
