Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Friend

James M Raker, born on November 10, 1938, in New Haven, Connecticut, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on August 26, 2025, surrounded by family. He was 86 years old.

James is lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly sixty years, Karen, and their two children, Barbara Mattson and James R. Raker. His legacy continues through his four grandchildren: Lisa Mattson, Mark Mattson, Jack Raker, and Lucas Raker.

Raised in Hamden, CT, James attended Hamden High School. He then moved to Boston to attend the Bentley School of Accounting & Finance where he earned his CPA certification. In Boston, James met his future wife, Karen. Together they created a warm and loving family, living in Toronto, Cincinnati, Norwood, MA, and settling for forty years in Walpole, MA. In their retirement, they lived in Palm Springs, CA for 14 years.

James built a distinguished career as an accountant and executive, making a lasting impact at Rust Craft Greeting Cards during his sixteen years there—a period in which he not only excelled professionally, but also met Karen. He continued his dedication and leadership at Imperial Distributors Inc. for over fifteen years. James was known for his integrity, expertise, and the respect he garnered from colleagues throughout his decades in business.

He found joy in reading, investing, gardening, and travel, always pursuing knowledge and new experiences. James will be laid to rest at a private family ceremony at Forest Lawn Memorial in Cathedral City, CA.

James Raker’s life was defined by steadfast devotion to his family, his profession, and his many interests. His presence and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
