James Michael Ball

Feb 5, 1955 — Jul 12, 2026

James Michael Ball, lovingly known as Mike and Griz, was born on February 5, 1955, in Brawley, California, to Robert Edward Ball and Martha Ann Ball. He was the youngest of three children, with an older brother and an older sister.

At a young age, Mike's family moved to Claremont, where he grew up. He attended Claremont High School, played football, and proudly served as captain of the football team. While still in school, he worked as a cook at Jolly Roger, demonstrating the strong work ethic that would stay with him throughout his life. After high school, he entered the workforce and had a family he was proud of.

Mike had a deep appreciation for nature. He loved spending time outdoors fishing, camping, and gold prospecting with his friends and family. Gold prospecting became one of his greatest passions. He shared many weekends with friends prospecting and proudly served as president of his gold prospecting club until the day he passed.

Mike was known for his reliability and was always the first to lend a helping hand. Whether it was helping someone move, doing construction on a home, or tackling a difficult project, he was always willing to help those in need. He was generous with his time and whatever he had, never hesitating to show up for those he loved.

Above all, Mike deeply loved his family. He was an incredibly proud father and grandfather, leaving behind his beloved son, Brent Ball, and his cherished grandson, Braxtyn Ball, who brought him immense joy. He was also dearly loved by his sister, brother, nieces, and nephews, all of whom will forever treasure the memories they shared with him.

Most importantly, Mike was a Christian man who loved the Lord. His faith, generosity, sense of humor, and unwavering love for his family and friends will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

"But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as Gold" JOB 23:10
