James Daesik Hahn

James Daesik Hahn, 77, born on February 2, 1941, in Seoul, Korea, passed away February 14, 2018. He resided in Los Angeles, California at the time of his passing.

He was a tough person. As a boy, he lived through and survived the Korean War. Impoverished after the war, and he was determined to make a better life for himself and his family. He studied endlessly during high school, by candlelight if need be. His hard work paid off and he gained entry to Korea University, one of the top universities in Korea.

He was a big believer in the American Dream. So in his late 20s, with $300 in savings, he made the fateful journey.

In Los Angeles, no one knew about Korea University, and his English skills were moderate at best, so he was forced to work odd jobs to save money. For example, early in his American years, he worked as a typewriter and even a metalworker.

After many years, he saved enough money, and met enough people, to start his own business: Koram Insurance. After a lifetime of hardship and struggle, he was able to realize the American dream.

He is survived by his wife, Kate Hahn, and his sons, Kenneth and Brian Hahn.

Funeral services will be held February 26, at the Church of the Recessional in Forest Lawn of Glendale, CA.
