Obituary

Jaime “Jimmy” Avelino, 78, was born on October 14, 1947, in Manila, Philippines, and passed away on May 5, 2026. The son of Tranquilino and Juanita, he was one of eight children and a proud graduate of Mapúa University, where he excelled as an athlete scholar.

Jimmy immigrated to the United States in the 1970s and made his home in Sun Valley, California. He devoted nearly 30 years to his craft as a printer at Wilbur & Co. and will always be remembered for his beautiful penmanship.

He was the loving husband of Carmelita — his partner of 50 years with their 51st anniversary just on the horizon. Together they built a life full of love, laughter, and family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, kuya, uncle, and a friend to many — known for lighting up every room he walked into and leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jimmy had a passion for sports, especially basketball and horse racing, and his love for the game and the track were constants throughout his life. He never missed an opportunity to karaoke — and made sure everyone in the room knew it was him singing and loved every moment of it.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Carmelita; his children, Jennifer and Michael; his grandchildren, Adrienne and Jayson; his siblings Eve, Aggie, Alex, and Tess and their families — and while he was a beloved uncle to all his nieces and nephews, he held a special place as a father figure to Melissa, Charinna, and Dennis Jr. following the passing of his brother Dennis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tranquilino and Juanita, and his siblings Mina, Dennis, and Raymond.

Jimmy will be deeply missed — but remembered always for the boundless love he gave, the rooms he brightened, and the life he lived so fully.

Arrangements are under the care of Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills, CA.
