Jackalynn Marie Toler

Jackalynn Marie Toler, loving sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed away on November 23, 2025 in Long Beach, California at the age of 72.

Lovingly known as “Jackie”, she was born on February 6, 1953 in West Helena, Arkansas to the late Charles Washington Hawkins and Irene Janette Hawkins. Soon after her birth, the family moved to Long Beach, California. As a young child, Jackie was raised in the West Side Church of Nazarene and this is where her faith in GOD became profound into her adult years that led her to become a member of Cottonwood Church in Los Alamitos, California. Growing up, Jackie was fierce and very protective of her younger siblings and Jackie was also very athletic and she carried an infamous story of breaking the same arm 6 times. In 1968, Jackie met Larry Carter and together they welcomed their first daughter Geneva Irene Carter (Eva) in 1970. Later on, she met Robert Glenn Toler and in January of 1977, they welcomed the birth of their son, Robert Glenn Toler III. With her two children, Jackie’s world was complete and she was a devoted sister, mother, and grandmother to her family and friends. Soon after, she followed her mother’s footsteps and began working at Value Village and Quality Thrift. Loving memories of the whole family together for BBQs, playing poker, or attending her family’s sports events were the norm. Jackie had a genuine and pure heart; she always gave and never expected anything in return. Her qualities were the fruit of the spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. She had a way of becoming “MOM” or “GRANDMA” to everyone that knew her. Jackie expressed love and comfort with no conditions, as she touched everyone that knew her and she will be greatly missed. She is remembered by her daughter, Geneva Irene Carter and her son, Robert Glenn Toler III; her sister, Pamela Whittaker (Husband Robert) and brother, Charles Washington Hawkins (Wife Toni); Special Aunt Margaret “Muggie” Newberry; Grandchildren Roderick Cohn (Wife Hayat), Robert Cohn (Wife A’ja), Faith Toler, Titus Toler, Selah Toler; Great-Grandchildren, Mya Cohn, Ky Cohn, Nasir Cohn, A’rihya Cohn, and Baby Cohn along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
