Jack Gantt

Jack Leroy Gantt died peacefully on January 1, 2026 at his home in Downey, CA. A resident of Downey since 2023. Mr. Gantt was born in Ohio on May 20, 1931 to Samuel Murray Gantt and Bernice Ethel Hess Gantt.

He was the eldest of twelve siblings. He went to Versailles high school and served in the US Marines corps from 1951- 1953 based in San Diego CA, where he met his late wife Bonnie June Abbey. Jack and Bonnie were married for 62 years and raised their two children in Bell, CA. Jack worked for Owen’s Glass in Vernon, CA for 30 years. During his retirement he enjoyed watching his grandkids, singing karaoke, playing cards and sharing stories from his time on the farm in Ohio. Jack was known for his electric personality, misplaced jokes and most of all his loving heart.

Jack is survived by his children Colleen Vega and Ronald Gantt; his grandchildren Jason Vega, Sheldon Gantt, Melody Vega and Jewel DeLap; his great grandchildren; Nathan and Hailey Cruz Joesph McLaughlin and Aliyah McLaughlin, Isabella DeLap and Scott DeLap; his siblings Frank Gantt, Bill Gantt, Mariam Minch, Arlene Maning, Johnny Gantt and Peggy Broomball.
