Jack Wellington Ewing, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and respected member of the Bakersfield community, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 7, 2025. He was 80 years old.


Born in Los Angeles and raised in Bakersfield, California, Jack was the son of Jack & Hazel Ewing, who owned the renowned Tam O’ Shanter and Stockdale Inn Restaurants, where he worked in his earlier years. He graduated from Bakersfield High School, where he developed a lifelong passion for golf that would later shape his career.


Jack went on to play professionally on the PGA Tour for 12 years, earning a reputation for both his skill and sportsmanship. His time on the tour was not only a testament to his talent but also to his love of the game, which he shared with friends and family alike.


A proud member of the Bakersfield Country Club, Jack spent many cherished moments with friends and fellow golfers, contributing to the community that had supported him from the start.


Jack is survived by his loving wife, Margaret; his children, Jeff (Sherry), Jennifer, and Mark (Tiffaney); his cherished grandchildren, Jameson and Haley; his brother Jim Ewing and family along with nieces, nephews and in-laws. He will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his sense of humor, and his legacy as a passionate athlete and community figure.


A celebration of Jack’s life will be held at Forest Lawn, Cathedral City on Friday, February 28, with family and friends invited to join in honoring his memory.


Jack will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his impact on those around him will be forever remembered.
