Sandown, NH: Isabella Dodd Hampton, age 89, of Sandown, NH, died peacefully Thursday morning, January 5, 2012. Isabella was born in Paisley, Scotland, the daughter of the late Thomas and Isabella (Anderson) Dodd. She immigrated to America with her family aboard the Assyria in May 1925 when she was two years old. The family settled in Jersey City, NJ where Isabella was raised and was a member of the Henry Snyder High School Class of 1939. She was proud to become a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1982.
Isabella was the devoted wife of the late William S. Hampton who died in September 1993. They had a full and loving marriage raising their family in Lombard, IL, Washington's Crossing, PA, Midlothian, VA, where she was a founding member of the Garden Club at the Salisbury Country Club, and in Dover, MA. Isabella and Bill retired to Homosassa, FL, where she was the founding member of the St. Thomas Ladies Guild and where they enjoyed swimming, boating, playing bridge and spending time with friends and family. A devoted Catholic, Isabella enjoyed singing in the church choir and was head of the Women's Sodality at the Most Precious Blood church in Dover, MA. She enjoyed painting ceramics with her dear friends Jane Thompson and Clair Ellison. She moved to Sandown, NH 12 years ago to live with her son Tom and to be closer to her family.
She was a devoted and proud mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She especially enjoyed a visit with her lively great-grandchildren at Thanksgiving. She enjoyed telling stories of her life growing up in New Jersey, cherished memories of dating and her courtship with Bill and the adventures of raising an active family.
Isabella is survived by her brother Thomas Dodd and his wife Shirley of Illinois, sons and daughters-in-law William D. and Brenda Hampton of Aberdeen, MD, Richard R. Hampton of Acton, MA, Thomas D. Hampton and Rene Robertie of Sandown, NH, Douglas A. and Kelly Hampton of Ayer, MA, her daughter Mary Beth (Hampton) Veneziano and her companion Heather of Milford, MA, her daughter-in-law Maureen Hampton of Warner, NH, 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband William, her son Robert T. Hampton and her sister Margaret (Dodd) Chisholm.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 14, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., (Route 121A) Plaistow, NH. Her funeral will begin on Saturday at 11 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon at St. Anne's Church, 26 Emerson Ave., Hampstead, NH. The burial will take place Sunday, January 15 at the Highland Cemetery, Dover, MA at 1 p.m.
